Meet Your Instructor
My name is Henrique Rocha, and coding has been my passion ever since I wrote my first line of code. Rocha is the Portuguese for rock and some friends at the university called me Rocky. I'm from Lisbon, Portugal but living in Berlin, Germany for the past 12 years.
I started coding in 1994 (in a language called BASIC on the ZX Spectrum computer) and my first job as a programmer was in 1998 in Visual Basic. I didn't have Internet access at that time so all my learning was from books. Nowadays it's crazy the amount of resources to learn online.
Since 2010 I've been focusing on developing Android apps and I'm currently working on the Zalando app, a fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform. If programming Android apps is also your goal you can help steer this course in that direction.
My employer Zalando, allows for a 3-month sabbatical leave. I'm taking this opportunity to explore my passion of teaching and try to create my own course to teach programming. If I don't try it, I'll never know if I can do it.
If AI can already solve the problems, why should you learn to code? By learning you will have the necessary skills to be critical about the solution the AI gives you and you will also have the skill to improve it.
Over the years I noticed a lot of missing pieces in the knowledge of programmers I work with that I consider part of the fundamentals, especially among junior developers. This inspired me to create this course to try to fill that gap no matter what programming language you might be using.
But I get it, you probably don't really care about who I am and why I created this platform... Right now, all you care about is CAN I ACTUALLY HELP YOU! Well, I was teaching Introduction to Programming and Algorithms and Data Structures at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon to students that were not from Computer Science so I'm able to teach to students that might not have a technical background.
